About Us

Gilbert Park Elementary School is located in the David Douglas District in the Gilbert-Powellhurst neighborhood of Southeast Portland, Oregon.  We are a SUN (Schools Uniting Neighborhoods) School, with IRCO (the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization) as our lead agency.  With support from the City of Portland and the East Multnomah Soil and Water Conservation District, we have installed two native habitat and butterfly gardens, and are in the process of transforming our nearly 10,000 square foot central courtyard into a vibrant native habitat and outdoor learning garden.  We’ve created this blog in an effort to document and share our work with others working to expand environmental and sustainability education in their own learning communities.
